Senioritis. At this point, we are all feeling the disorder. I find myself really struggling to stay focused in my classes as the days quickly slip from winter into the promises of spring. I mean, it becomes hard to focus when you already have college in sight. So I looked up some definitions of this mental block that many of us, myself included, seem to be experiencing. First, Wikipedia referenced senioritis as“a colloquial term used in the United States and Canada to describe the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school, college and graduate school careers”. Then, Urban Dictionary defined it as “A crippling disease that strikes high school seniors. Symptoms include: laziness, an over-excessive wearing of track pants, old athletic shirts, sweatpants, athletic shorts, and sweatshirts. Also features a lack of studying, repeated absences, and a generally dismissive attitude. The only known cure is a phenomenon known as Graduation.” So now that we know what it is, the only thing we can do is buckle down and try to stay as focused as we can for the remainder of the year.
